President Sadyr Zhaparov returned to Kyrgyzstan from an official visit to South Korea, the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan informed, 24.kg reports.

The Kyrgyz delegation arrived in Bishkek at approximately 4:00 PM local time on December 4, 2024.

Earlier that day, President Zhaparov participated in an investment dialogue between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea in Seoul. The visit, conducted from December 2 to 4, resulted in the signing of several bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries. Key agreements included:

  1. A joint statement on establishing a comprehensive partnership between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea.
  2. A framework agreement on climate change cooperation.
  3. Protocols and memoranda on avoiding double taxation, economic development credits, education, digital transformation, energy, and trade.
  4. Collaboration agreements in forestry, agriculture, postal services, and small hydropower projects.
  5. Investment projects like landfill gas energy production in Osh and carbon emission reduction efforts.

The agreements are expected to strengthen bilateral ties in areas such as infrastructure, technology, education, and environmental sustainability.

Concurrently, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in response to internal and external threats, including tensions with North Korea and opposition forces. Parliamentary resistance to this decision led to political turmoil, with plans for impeachment and the resignation of South Korea's defense minister.
