On the eve of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon's state visit to China, Tajik and Chinese companies signed investment agreements worth over $8 billion, Avesta.tj reports.
The signing took place during a meeting between Emomali Rahmon and business representatives from both countries. Companies operating in energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence, education, industry, and logistics participated in the event.
According to the Tajik side, the total volume of Chinese investment in the country's economy has already approached $6 billion, of which approximately $3.5 billion is direct investment. More than 700 companies with Chinese capital operate in the country.
The parties noted the growth in bilateral trade. In the first quarter of 2026, trade turnover between China and Tajikistan reached $790 million. Beijing remains Dushanbe's largest trading partner and a major investor in the country's economy.
During the meeting, new projects in industry, energy, and raw material processing were presented. In particular, Chinese companies announced plans to expand projects in hydropower, chemical industry, and fertilizer production.
As forum participants noted, the agreements reached create the basis for the implementation of joint projects in infrastructure, energy, and high-tech industries, as well as for the further expansion of investment cooperation between the two countries.
