By September 1, 2024, gardeners in Tajikistan had harvested over 31,000 tons of grapes, which is 11 times more than during the same period last year, reports Asiaplustj.info.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan noted that the cold weather in the winter of 2022 destroyed most of the grape plantations, which negatively affected the production of this crop. However, experienced farmer-gardeners managed to restore the vineyards in a short period and increased production.

According to the ministry, Tajikistan has also harvested a good crop of other agricultural products this year.

During the summer period, more than 270,000 tons of various fruits were harvested, which is 54% more than during the same period in 2023.

The harvesting of fruits and grapes continues, and by the end of the year, the figures may increase by several more percent.

Compared to last year, vegetable production increased by 25%, amounting to 1.1 million tons. This includes 515,000 tons of onions (a 13% increase), 192,000 tons of tomatoes (+36%), 128,000 tons of carrots (+42%), 107,000 tons of cucumbers (12%), and 160,000 tons of other vegetable crops (+66%).

Production of melons—watermelons, melons, and pumpkins—increased by 53% and reached 563,000 tons. Potato harvest increased by 35% to 280,000 tons. Grain and fodder crop production also increased.

To date, over 808,000 tons of grain have been harvested, which is 4% more than during the same period in 2023. Of this, about 645,000 tons are wheat, which is 3.8% less than last year’s volume.

Currently, Tajikistan's farmers have carried out a repeat sowing of crops on an area of more than 201,000 hectares, which is 5,000 hectares more than planned and 14,000 hectares more than in 2023.

Grains, vegetables, potatoes, and fodder crops are being grown on these fields.
