Tashkent has entered the top ten cities in the world for air pollution levels this week. The head of the Uzhydromet department, Khumoyun Magripov, shared the reasons for the worsening situation, UzA reports.
According to the IqAir portal, the capital of Uzbekistan ranks seventh in the list of cities with the most polluted air in the world. Tashkent is positioned between Dhaka and Detroit.
Khumoyun Magripov noted that the information on the IqAir portal may not always be objective. He also expressed the opinion that the dustiness in the capital is related to desertification, as a significant part of Uzbekistan consists of plains, from which dust is lifted and reaches the cities.
This phenomenon involves fluctuating air pollution levels, with Tashkent currently holding the seventh place. The situation can change within minutes or hours, with another city surpassing us in the rankings, while Tashkent may drop to the 50th position. When precipitation occurs, the harmful dust in the atmosphere settles on the ground, according to Magripov.
Earlier, residents of Tashkent identified air pollution as one of the main problems that adversely affect their lives.
