Turkmenistan is expanding its presence in the regional gas market. Following negotiations held on July 1-3 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and Iran signed a contract for the supply of Turkmen gas to Iraq. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

According to the agreements reached, Turkmenistan will annually supply up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Iraq through Iran using the SWAP scheme. This agreement is the result of years of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in the gas sector.

To ensure these supplies, the expansion of gas transport infrastructure is planned. Iranian companies will build a new 125 km gas pipeline and three gas compressor stations in Turkmenistan.

In addition, the parties agreed to increase the volume of gas supplied to Iran to 40 billion cubic meters per year. This will be achieved by expanding the capacities along the routes of Dowletabad – Sarakhs – Khangiran and through the Chalous gas measuring station.
