The prospects for cooperation in the transport sector were discussed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin with the Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakyev, reports Rirmeurasia.ru.

The focus of their discussion was the interaction of the two countries in the development of the eastern direction of the North-South corridor, which passes through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, ensuring the transit of goods to Pakistan and further to India.

In July of this year, a road map was signed between Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Turkmenistan for the synchronous development of the North-South corridor, and a decision was agreed on the use of the western branch of the Trans-Afghan Railway. Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to participate together with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in the construction of sections of the Afghan railway “Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin-Buldak” in terms of ensuring the transportation of materials of the upper structure of the railway track, sleepers, rails and fastenings made in Kazakhstan.

The parties noted mutual work to create competitive tariff conditions on the North-South route, where the Russian Federation, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan agreed to create a single logistics operator on the eastern branch for seamless transportation of goods.
