Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov emphasized the need to support Afghanistan to ensure regional security, reports Eurasiatoday.ru.
He stated that Ashgabat’s contribution to this process includes the construction of TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline), TAP power lines, and a railway to Afghanistan.
"Thus, Turkmenistan practically reaffirms its solidarity with the people of Afghanistan," the diplomat added.
Meredov urged the UN to focus on protecting the climate environment in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea, assisting in saving the Aral Sea, addressing desertification, and reducing water resources in the region.
He proposed the creation of a Regional Center for Climate Change-related Technologies in Central Asia.
He also called for support for Turkmenistan’s initiatives, such as the Global Framework Program for the Transition to a Circular Economy, the Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity, and the Alliance for Global Energy Security and Sustainable Development.
