ASHGABAT - The capital of Turkmenistan hosted a series of international events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), with the participation of Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBT Organization, Orient.tm reports.
On June 8, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Robert Floyd. During the talks, the parties reaffirmed the high level of cooperation in international security, disarmament, and non-proliferation. The Turkmen leader noted that, while adhering to a policy of permanent neutrality, the country consistently fulfills its obligations under key international agreements, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty. Robert Floyd praised Turkmenistan's contribution to strengthening global security and developing international dialogue.
A high-level regional meeting with representatives of Central Asian countries was also held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Participants discussed strengthening regional cooperation, advancing the goals of the CTBT, and raising international awareness of the importance of the Treaty's early entry into force.
A five-day regional workshop for specialists from national data centers served as a practical continuation of this cooperation. Twenty-five experts from nine countries, including Central Asian states, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Russia, are participating in the training. The program aims to improve seismic analysis skills and the use of International Monitoring System data to verify compliance with the CTBT.
