The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan is on a visit to Tehran, during which he held meetings with his counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, with the Ministers of Energy of Iran Abbas Aliabadi and Oil Mohsen Paknejad, as well as with President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ritmeurasia.ru reports.
The day before, political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of the two countries, headed by the foreign ministers.
During the consultations, an exchange of views took place on issues of bilateral partnership in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields, and the importance of bilateral cooperation in preventing and countering threats in the region was emphasized.
The parties noted that it is the regular and trusting dialogue at the highest political level that contributes to the further strengthening of traditional good-neighborly ties.
Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed the possibilities of enhancing Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development.
In this regard, the importance of partnership within the UN, as well as other authoritative international and regional structures, in particular the ECO and OIC, was emphasized. In this regard, a review of the international and regional agenda was also held.
The delegations noted the importance of inter-parliamentary relations. It was noted that the inter-parliamentary friendship group of the two countries is successfully working in this direction. The upcoming events in this direction were discussed.
A separate topic of discussion was trade and economic cooperation. Bilateral trade turnover indicators were considered. The fuel and energy and transport sectors were named among the priorities.
According to the instructions of the top leadership, the parties outlined further steps to implement the tasks set, including in the field of water resources management. In this regard, the leading role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was noted.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including holding joint events this year. The possibilities of strengthening ties in the areas of science, education, healthcare and sports were considered.
Later, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which Meredov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Masoud Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the kind words and expressed reciprocal greetings to the leadership of Turkmenistan.
Having emphasized the noticeable intensification of Iranian-Turkmen relations, the President noted the importance of the telephone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, held on February 10, during which important issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian fields were discussed.
In addition, President Masoud Pezeshkian voiced Iran's commitment to further constructive work with Turkmenistan in the fields of energy, transport, water resources, and others.
A day earlier, on February 11, Meredov discussed prospects for cooperation with Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi in the field of energy, rational use of water resources, and confirmed the commitment of the two countries to intensify further cooperation.
The Turkmen delegation also held talks with the country's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad. The parties noted the existence of great opportunities for realizing the potential of the two countries in the oil and gas sector.
Recall that on February 12, the head of Iran held a telephone conversation with the national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, where the parties confirmed agreements on SWAP supplies of Turkmen gas through Iran to Turkey.
