Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Trade and Integration, Kairat Torebayev, commented on the possible consequences of the U.S.-China trade confrontation for Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports.

Torebayev believes that Kazakhstan will not be affected, as the country’s market has its own specific characteristics.

According to him, the ministry has analyzed various scenarios and does not foresee any significant risks in this regard.

"China produces a huge variety of goods, but the demand for them in the U.S. and Kazakhstan differs significantly. Therefore, an influx of Chinese products into our country is not expected," Torebayev stated at a briefing in the Mazhilis.

He also noted that many Chinese enterprises operate exclusively for the U.S. market, where purchasing power is much higher than in Kazakhstan. As a result, their products target different consumer segments and may not find demand in Kazakhstan.

"Such products must undergo new certification, registration, and other procedures, which complicates their redistribution. Secondly, the key question is whether there will even be demand for such goods in Kazakhstan," the Vice Minister concluded.

Earlier, the U.S. President announced tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China, effective February 1. In response, China imposed counter-tariffs on certain U.S. goods and introduced additional trade-related measures, including an investigation into Google.
