Uzbekistan enters Top 10 largest gold producers

According to the results from different countries in 2023, Uzbekistan ranked tenth among the largest gold producers. The country produced 119.6 tons of the precious metal over the year, reports Podrobno.uz.

According to an infographic by TASS, China was the leader in gold production last year with 378.2 tons. Russia ranked second with 321.8 tons, and Australia came third with 293.8 tons.

The top ten producers of the precious metal also included Canada (191.9 tons), the United States (166.7 tons), Ghana (135.1 tons), Indonesia (132.5 tons), Peru (128.8 tons), and Mexico (126.6 tons).

Switzerland became the largest gold exporter last year, earning $107.2 billion from selling the precious metal abroad. The United Kingdom was second ($65.3 billion), and China was third ($44.4 billion).

As of early October 2024, Uzbekistan's gold and foreign currency reserves reached a record high, exceeding $43 billion.
