Uzbekistan plans to invest $3 billion in 19 tourism projects in Bukhara region, expected to generate up to $5 billion in exports of tourism services, reported Trend, citing the press service of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Mirziyoyev announced the plans during a visit to the region. The programme includes the cultural and ethnographic park “Boqiy Buxoro”, an exhibition hall, hotels and entertainment facilities at a new tourist centre. International hotel brands Indigo, Holiday Inn and Hilton are expected to open in Bukhara.

The plan also covers basic infrastructure. Two projects worth $633 million launched with international partners will improve water supply for 2 million residents, including 781,000 people who will get access to drinking water for the first time. The region aims to give its entire population access to drinking water within five years. Seven road projects worth $565 million are expected to triple Bukhara’s transit potential.

The president also reviewed preparations for the international summits Bukhara will host in 2027 and ordered the infrastructure needed to receive them.

Bukhara, whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the main destinations on the Silk Road tourist route.
