The members of the World Bank Group's Board have decided to allocate a $350 million grant as the first phase of funding for the construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant in Tajikistan. An additional $300 million will be provided in the second phase, Ritmeurasia.ru reports.
Tajikistan's Permanent Representative to the World Bank, Pairav Amirzoda, commented on the decision: "Tajikistan's hydropower resources amount to approximately 527 billion kWh per year, of which only 5% have been utilized so far. Currently, our country ranks sixth in the world in terms of 'green' energy production," Khovar.tj reports.
It was emphasized that the Rogun Hydropower Plant is a "green" energy project, and upon its completion, the issue of electricity shortages in the country will be resolved. Additionally, its operation could benefit other countries in the region. The hydropower plant plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions in Tajikistan and contributes to lowering carbon emissions in power grids across Central Asia.
