A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, where participants discussed key international and regional security challenges, 24.kg reports.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov received the participants and outlined major threats facing the CSTO, including terrorism, radicalism, and transnational crime.

Following the meeting, participants emphasized that in the context of growing global instability, collective security is becoming increasingly vital and essential for all member states.

Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister, Jeenbek Kulubaev, summarized the outcomes of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council meeting:

  • The ministers addressed urgent international and regional security issues, foreign policy coordination, and the strengthening of mutual cooperation.

  • Special focus was given to combating terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime—persistent and pressing challenges in today’s world.

  • Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of collective security and solidarity, which form the foundation of the CSTO.

  • In times of global uncertainty, collective security is no longer just a priority but a strategic imperative for all CSTO member states.

On the eve of the meeting, President Japarov held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. They discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, regional integration efforts, and prospects for expanding economic ties.

President Japarov stressed that Russia remains a strategic partner for Kyrgyzstan:
“Russian direct investments show positive dynamics, and Russia continues to be the largest investor in Kyrgyzstan’s economy,” he said.

The head of state also highlighted the significance of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund as a major tool for strengthening investment cooperation. He noted encouraging economic trends over the past three years:
“Kyrgyzstan is steadily moving toward sustainable development. Among our key priorities are energy, transport, digitalization, tourism, and the development of rare earth and critical mineral resources.”

Sergey Lavrov, in turn, emphasized the importance of direct engagement by heads of state:
“It is the presidents who set the tone for cooperation. Foreign ministries must ensure coordinated efforts across all directions,” he stated.

Lavrov added that alongside bilateral issues, Kyrgyzstan plays a key role in advancing agendas within the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the CSTO.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership and enhancing collaboration on international platforms.
