EBRD in Kyrgyzstan finances projects worth $1 bln

Kyrgyzstan is currently working on 40 national projects, including infrastructure initiatives such as the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, Minister of Economy Daniyar Amangeldiev stated during a meeting with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Managing Director Huseyin Ozhan, reports Economist.kg.

Amangeldiev proposed enhancing cooperation with the EBRD in the energy sector, emphasizing the creation of storage systems to improve energy resilience.

The minister also highlighted the importance of developing the banking sector and private business activity, underscoring the need for concessional financing to support these areas.

In response, Ozhan praised Kyrgyzstan's achievements and confirmed the EBRD's readiness to deepen cooperation. He noted that the bank's portfolio in the country exceeded $1 billion following the signing of a new agreement. Key areas of the EBRD’s activities in Kyrgyzstan include the water sector, transport, energy, and private sector support.

The parties agreed to continue developing a project portfolio for 2025, with a total funding amount of €150 million.
