EDB plans to invest in country in 2023 revealed in Kazakhstan

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) plans to invest more than $1.1 billion in projects in Kazakhstan in 2023, the press service of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with EDB head Nikolai Podguzov in Astana on Thursday. During the meeting, the head of the bank told Tokayev about the results of work and plans for further cooperation between the EDB and Kazakhstan, as well as forecasts for the coming period.

"In 2023, the bank intends to invest more than $1.1 billion in our country, as well as facilitate the inflow of international investments into Kazakhstani projects. Among the priority sectors are transport infrastructure and logistics, industry, agro-industrial complex, green energy and water resources," the statement says.

Podguzov, in turn, said that last year the EDB exceeded all planned targets, and the volume of investments in Kazakhstan amounted to $1.2 billion, a five-fold increase compared to 2021. The head of state was also provided with information on the implementation of intercountry integration projects, including such as the construction of the Ayagoz-Bakhty railway line and the border crossing on the border with China, as well as the modernization of the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak water pipeline.

In addition, the EDB Chairman told the President about the forthcoming meeting of the Association of Asia-Pacific Development Institutions (ADFIAP), which will be held from May 15 to 17 this year in Almaty. The event will bring together more than 80 organizations from 40 countries of the world, as well as international structures, relevant ministries of Kazakhstan to discuss investment in the economy of the republic and the EAEU.

EDB is an international financial institution. Its participants are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The authorized capital of the EDB is 7 billion US dollars.
