"Gazprom" plans to reformat relations between Russia, Kazakhstan, and other Central Asian countries, stated the head of the Russian company, Alexey Miller, RIA Novosti reports.
"If our cooperation in the gas industry could be described as short-term lately, now we have set ourselves the task of reaching a 15-year horizon," Miller said in an interview.
Alexey Miller cited several reasons for the change, unlike the Soviet period when gas from Central Asia flowed into the regions of Russia, now there is a reverse flow. On the one hand, Russia's resource base has significantly increased during this time, explained Miller.
"In terms of reserves and production volume, I mean specifically production capacities, we rank first in the world. Secondly, it is necessary to understand that the Central Asian republics are currently developing very dynamically. We understand the pace of growth very well," said the head of Gazprom.
During Vladimir Putin's visit to Astana, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of gas supply projects through the territory of Kazakhstan to both the countries of the region and China.
Tokayev had previously noted that the launch of transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan plays a key role in ensuring the energy security of Central Asia.
On October 7, 2023, Presidents Vladimir Putin, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan.
