Kazakhstan and China concluded 14 years of negotiations and signed an intergovernmental agreement on ensuring security and law and order within the Khorgos International Center for Border Cooperation. The document was signed in Beijing during a visit by Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov, Tengrinews.kz reports.
According to Shyngys Alekeshev, official representative of the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs, the agreement creates a clear legal basis for cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries, including information exchange, crime prevention, and prompt response to various situations.
The document's significance stems from the special status of Khorgos—one of the key platforms for Kazakh-Chinese border cooperation, through which significant flows of people and goods pass daily. Establishing a clear mechanism for cooperation between law enforcement agencies should improve security and reduce the risk of conflict.
For Kazakhstan, the agreement has not only law enforcement but also economic significance. Security directly impacts the development of trade, tourism, and logistics. As economic ties with China grow, effective border coordination is becoming essential for further expansion of transport and commercial flows. The very completion of the 14-year negotiation process also demonstrates the two countries' commitment to strengthening the legal and institutional foundation of their strategic partnership.
