Kazakhstan and Mongolia strengthen bilateral ties

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a state visit to Mongolia at the invitation of the President of the Republic Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, the press service of the Kazakh leader's administration reported.

Tokayev and the Kazakh delegation were met at the Ulaanbaatar airport by Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkhin Battsetseg.

The heads of state held talks in a narrow and expanded format. During the talks, strategic issues of partnership were discussed. Tokayev expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized that Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to cooperation with Mongolia, based on common cultural and historical roots.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the signing of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership will make the countries' cooperation at the political, economic and cultural levels deeper. Kazakhstan will also support Mongolia's desire to conclude a free trade agreement with the EAEU.

"We are committed to further developing bilateral and multilateral ties," Tokayev said.

The President of Mongolia drew attention to the fact that the visit of the Kazakh delegation will provide an opportunity to identify new areas of bilateral cooperation. The parties agreed on cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy, mining and metallurgy, transport and finance. In addition, attention was paid to trade, economic and investment projects.

Tokayev met with Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene. They discussed the work of the governments of the countries to implement the intergovernmental agreements reached. The head of Kazakhstan discussed work on further strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and expanding the legal framework of bilateral relations with the Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan.

As part of the visit, Tokayev visited the Genghis Khan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar.
