In the area of ​​the settlement of Min-Kush in the Jumgal district of Kyrgyzstan, work began on the reclamation of tailings. The work is being carried out by the Russian corporation Rosatom together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, reported.

Currently, uranium waste is being transferred from the Tuyuk-Suu tailing dump to the Dalnee tailing dump.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov got acquainted with the course of reclamation of tailings during a working trip to the Naryn region.

Before that, President Sadyr Japarov met with the residents of the village of Min-Kush and listened to their concerns about the safety of the transfer and disposal of radioactive waste. Then it was noted that the evacuation of uranium waste will be carried out only within the framework of the current disposal rules in accordance with international requirements, while all sanitary standards and technical safety rules will be observed at the facilities.

In this regard, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, together with the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, inspected the progress of work on the disposal of uranium waste on the spot, and, based on the results, adjustments were made to the progress of work.

Before gaining independence, Kyrgyzstan was one of the main suppliers of uranium ore for the nuclear needs of the USSR.
