President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has instructed the government to prepare a nationwide tree-planting campaign for November, reported Trend, citing the government press service.

The instruction followed a report by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Tanryguly Atakhallyev on agriculture and seasonal campaigns. Planting will take place in Ashgabat, Arkadag and all regions under the presidential decree “On Planting Seedlings in Turkmenistan in 2026” and the National Forest Programme. Seasonal tree planting has become a national tradition in Turkmenistan and is presented as part of efforts against desertification and to improve the urban environment.

Meanwhile, winter wheat sowing, irrigation and fertilizing are under way across the country, and the cotton harvest and processing at ginning plants continue.

The campaign follows the launch in late October of a five-year project with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on nature-based solutions in agriculture. Led by the Ministry of Environmental Protection with FAO, the Green Climate Fund and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, it will set up a nursery for protective forest belts, restore saline soils and plant salt-tolerant vegetation.
