Tajikistan and Kazakhstan intend to conclude a new intergovernmental agreement in the field of energy, which will provide for the supply of electricity from the Rogun hydroelectric power station to Kazakhstan.
This was reported by Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin after negotiations with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtileu in Astana, as noted by Kazinform.
Key aspects of the agreement between the two countries
The agreement provides for a 20-year contract with the possibility of extension for an additional 10 years. The supply of electricity will be carried out during periods of shortage in the North-South zone of Kazakhstan's Unified Energy System.
The price per 1 kWh will be 3.4 cents, with annual indexing based on the producer price index of the United States.
Development of trade and economic cooperation
The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties.
Successful projects mentioned include:
- The establishment of a sunflower seed processing plant in Kazakhstan;
- The operations of the Kazakh "Freedom Bank" subsidiary in Tajikistan;
- The construction of a joint logistics center for the export of fruit and vegetable products.
Around one hundred Kazakh companies are already operating in Tajikistan, indicating the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation.
Migration issues
Labor migration issues were also discussed. Tajik workers feel comfortable in Kazakhstan, contributing to the development of the local economy and respecting the traditions of the fraternal people.
This fosters the strengthening of ties between the two countries and the development of regional cooperation.
