Tajik President Emomali Rahmon stated that the country has created an effective platform for uniting international efforts to preserve glaciers. He made this statement in Astana, speaking at the regional environmental summit "Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future," Avesta.tj reports.

Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan accounts for up to 60% of Central Asia's water resources, underscoring the key role of the country's mountain ecosystems in ensuring water supply and sustainable development for the entire region.

He noted that glacier melting is currently intensifying worldwide. This disrupts the water balance, creates environmental threats, and increases the risk of water-related natural disasters.

The Tajik President noted that the UN resolution on the International Decade for Action, "Water for Sustainable Development," is currently being implemented. He also added that the first high-level international conference on glacier conservation, held in Dushanbe in 2025 as part of the International Year of Glacier Conservation, has become an effective platform for consolidating efforts in this area.
