Tajikistan national team reached playoffs of Asian Football Cup for first time

The Tajikistan national football team has, for the first time in its history, advanced to the knockout stage of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

In the 1/8 finals of the 2023 Asian Cup, the national team of Tajikistan beat the UAE team in a penalty shootout, securing a place in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament. The match between Tajikistan and the UAE took place at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha, and the regular time ended with a 1-1 score.

After 30 minutes of extra time, the winner was still undetermined. In the penalty shootout, the Tajikistan national team emerged victorious with a score of 5-3. In the quarterfinals, Tajikistan will face the winner of the Iraq vs. Jordan match.

This marks the first time that the Tajikistan national team has reached the final stage of the AFC Asian Cup.

In the same tournament, the Uzbekistan national team finished second in its group, earning 5 points. They won against the Indian national team with a score of 3-0 and drew with both the Australian national team (1-1) and the Syrian national team (0-0).

On January 30, the Uzbekistan national team will play against the Thailand national team for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Cup.
