Turkmenistan and OSCE ODPHR looking for ways to bring their positions closer

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held a meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Matteo Mecacci, Turkmen Foreign Ministry's press service reports.

The parties discussed possibilities for expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE in the areas of legislation, support for the institution of the ombudsman, the electoral process, freedom of the media, and human rights.

The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of the visit by the ODIHR Director to activate interaction with the OSCE. It was noted that Ashgabat effectively collaborates with various OSCE structures.

During the visit, Matteo Mecacci also held several meetings with the leadership of Turkmenistan's state bodies, including the Speaker of the Mejlis, heads of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Justice, the Institute of State, Law, and Democracy, as well as the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan.

The negotiations will contribute to strengthening Turkmenistan's ties with OSCE institutions in the field of democracy and human rights.
