Turkmenistan is ready to increase the number of trucks entering from Afghanistan carrying commercial cargo through the border crossing between the cities of Serhetabat and Torghundi to 120 vehicles per day.

This issue was discussed during a meeting between the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Afghanistan, Batyr Yolov, and the governor of the Afghan province of Herat, Sheikh Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar, Bakhtar news agency reports.

Consul General Yolov also reported on the completion of repair works at the "Nur ul Jihad" power substation, through which Turkmenistan intends to increase the export volume of electricity to Afghanistan.

In turn, Mawlana Noor Ahmad Islamjar once again called for speeding up the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, as well as organizing a meeting involving transport authorities from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan to discuss the resumption of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan route.

The governor of Herat requested simplification of the visa issuance procedure for Afghan traders transporting fresh and dried fruits to Turkmenistan.

Earlier in February 2024, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, promised to simplify visa issuance for Afghan entrepreneurs and transport personnel during a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

In May, representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan visited the province of Herat, where they signed contracts with local producers totaling $200 million, including purchases of food products manufactured in Herat.
