Uzbekistan interested in expanding partnership with EAEU

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow, expressed interest in expanding practical partnership with the EAEU and proposed preparing a new plan of joint activities between the government of the republic and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Interfax reports.

"Uzbekistan is interested in expanding practical partnership and more active participation in the implementation of multilateral projects of sectoral cooperation within the strategic directions of the EAEU development," Mirziyoyev said, with the text of his speech published by official Uzbekistani media.

The President of Uzbekistan proposed preparing a new comprehensive plan of joint activities between the government of Uzbekistan and the EEC for the medium term.

"We are confident that the prompt adoption of a mechanism regulating the issues of full-fledged participation of observer states in projects will contribute to the effective implementation of this document," Merziyoyev noted.

He confirmed readiness for mutual elimination of barriers and trade restrictions with EAEU countries, as well as proposed continuing dialogue on the development of the North-South transport corridor towards the markets of South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East.

"In this regard, we welcome the fruitful results of the first meeting of transport authorities leaders on the development of the multimodal route Belarus - Russia - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan, held in late April in the city of Termez," the president said.

Mirziyoyev particularly emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with the EAEU in such crucial directions as the development of the Eurasian Agroexpress, the implementation of "green" and water-saving technologies, the creation of joint agro-industrial clusters and logistics centers, the development of common approaches, and close cooperation on climate change mitigation issues.
