Uzbekistan proposes the development of a common position in relation to the new authorities of Afghanistan, which was announced by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic.

Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov proposed to develop a unified approach for the interaction of the Turkic states with the government of the radical Taliban movement in Afghanistan. He made such a statement at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States, Ferghana reports.

“Uzbekistan takes a firm and principled position on the need for active support by the international community for the political and socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan. We need to develop a common and holistic approach to the interim government of Afghanistan [formed by the Taliban],” Norov said.

He noted that the Turkic peoples are connected with Afghanistan by common historical, cultural and spiritual ties.

The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August 2022, after the military formations of the international coalition led by the United States hastily left Afghanistan. The new government formed by the Taliban in September last year is not recognized by any state in the world. At the same time, a number of states interact with it. In particular, Uzbekistan regularly provides humanitarian assistance to the Afghans, and is working with the Taliban on the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Railway project, which should run along the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar (Pakistan) route. This road will connect the railway networks of South Asia and the countries of Central Asia.
