DUSHANBE - The World Bank has approved the Conditional Emergency Response Project (CERP) for Tajikistan, a rapid financing mechanism that will enable the government to respond quickly to emergencies and crises. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, according to Avesta.tj.

Under the terms of the project, up to 10% of undisbursed funds from the World Bank's current investment portfolio in Tajikistan can be reallocated to cover immediate emergency needs. The CERP is activated after the government officially declares a state of emergency.

The mechanism provides funding for vital activities:

  • provision of personal protective equipment to responders;
  • procurement of critical goods such as food, water, medicine, and agricultural inputs;
  • emergency livelihood support for affected households.

The CERP project is part of the Rapid Response Option (RRO), which allows governments to quickly reallocate funds from existing projects to respond to crises. The government of Tajikistan has officially accepted this instrument.

The new mechanism complements the country's ongoing disaster preparedness project, the Tajikistan Preparedness and Resilience to Disasters Project (PREPARED).
