In Geneva, at the eighth meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), participants expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for its efforts in the necessary reforms for accession and identified areas requiring further action, Kun.uz reports.
The Uzbek delegation at the meeting was led by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojayev.
"Uzbekistan remains steadfast in its aspiration to join the World Trade Organization, and we are making every effort to achieve significant progress," said Khojayev, referring to Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO by the 14th Ministerial Conference in Cameroon in 2026.
The Chair of the Working Group, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Yun Son Dok, noted the accelerated pace of negotiations. "Today, we are meeting just six months after our seventh meeting. The reduction in intervals between sessions is clear evidence that our work is progressing at a faster pace," he noted.
Deputy Minister of Justice Alisher Karimov highlighted that Uzbekistan has adopted several legal acts to bring its trade regime into compliance with WTO rules in various areas.
The exact date of the next meeting of the Working Group will be announced after all necessary materials for negotiations are submitted.
