Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobaev, met with a delegation from Aksu County in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China, led by Governor Adili Ali, the press service of the Kyrgyz government reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation. Special attention was given to the development of infrastructure at the Bedel border checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border in Issyk-Kul region, improving transport and logistics accessibility at this crossing point, and creating opportunities for tourism.
The governor of Aksu County proposed the construction of a railway linking Aksu – Bedel – Balykchy.
Torobaev highlighted the interest of Kyrgyz regions in expanding cooperation with Aksu County in all areas of mutual interest.
In September 2024, a new border checkpoint, Bedel, was opened on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, becoming the third border crossing between the two countries.
At that time, Bakyt Torobaev emphasized that the new transport corridor would serve as the third major gateway and bridge connecting Kyrgyzstan and China, alongside the Irkeshtam Road and Torugart Road border crossings.
The Bedel Road border checkpoint was opened under a simplified procedure with temporary infrastructure. Electricity was supplied, a 58 km road (Barskoon – Uchturfan – Aksu) was constructed, and bridges were built.
Full-scale construction of the road and border crossing is expected to be completed by 2027. Within the next two years, an inspection complex will be built at the Tsement-Tam section.
