On the eve of President Emamolu Rahmon's visit to Seoul, Tajikistan's Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, met with the management of the South Korean company SK Specialty, Avesta.tj reported.
The parties discussed the creation of a full-cycle tungsten production facility in the country—from ore mining to the production of finished powders needed for semiconductors and electronics.
The project is planned to be implemented using a "from mining to production" model. The processing complex will be located in one of the country's free economic zones, and other tungsten deposits will be integrated into it in the future. The project will meet global green economy (ESG) standards.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue detailed development of investment conditions and the project implementation schedule.
This project demonstrates that Tajikistan is gradually moving away from being a mere exporter of raw materials and is striving to process minerals domestically.
Collaboration with a major company like SK Specialty provides the republic with access to modern technologies, creates new jobs for local specialists, and helps the country gain a foothold in the global high-tech metals market.
