South Korean company ROBOTIS will invest approximately $100 million in the construction of a plant for the production of humanoid robots and components at the Yangi Avlod Special Industrial Zone in Tashkent, with construction commencing in June 2026, according to South Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan Won Do-yeon. The project will create over 1,000 skilled jobs and facilitate technology transfer, Daryo.uz reported.
The diplomat emphasized the special status of the strategic partnership between the countries, noting the growing activity of Korean businesses: the expansion of the Kia plant in Jizzakh, Incheon Airport's participation in the New Tashkent Airport project, and the launch of the Jaloliddin Manguberdi high-speed trains.
ROBOTIS's investment elevates technological cooperation between South Korea and Uzbekistan to the level of Industry 4.0, transforming Tashkent into a regional hub for high-tech mechanical engineering. The construction of a humanoid robot plant confirms Tashkent's commitment to industrial modernization and attracting foreign direct investment through a combination of Korean technologies and readily available local labor resources.
However, key challenges to successfully launching production will include securing the plant's component base within a global supply chain environment, as well as quickly training local engineering personnel to operate high-precision autonomous systems.
