The trilateral meeting of the Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, during which the issue of state borders was discussed, took place on January 8, 2025.

The meeting was held at the junction of the state borders of the three countries - in the Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, and the Sughd region of Tajikistan, according to a publication on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

The negotiations were led by the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, and the Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Kohir Rasulzoda.

The meeting was conducted within the framework of previously reached agreements on state border issues between the heads of state: Sadyr Japarov, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Emomali Rahmon.

"During the meeting, the completion of the delimitation process of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan was noted. On January 27, 2023, ratification certificates of the Treaty between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border were exchanged.

In the agreement on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan dated December 4, 2024, the particular importance of completing the process of describing the remaining sections of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border was emphasized. Working groups must prepare the final documents as soon as possible," stated the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

Additionally, it was emphasized that the three countries have great potential to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, logistics, water and energy relations, and cultural and humanitarian ties. A crucial component of this cooperation is the development of cross-border and interregional collaboration.

In December 2024, government delegations from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan fully completed the description of the remaining sections of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border.

On December 4, in Batken, at a meeting of the co-chairs of the delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border, Saimumin Yatimov and Kamchybek Tashiev instructed the working groups of the two countries to "begin the process of finalizing the documents" upon completion of the border line determination.

Later, on December 13, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, stated that the issue of the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border had been fully resolved: disputed territories were divided based on the 50/50 principle, and the remaining formalities would be completed after the signing of documents and their ratification by the parliaments of both countries.

"Border posts will open immediately after the completion of the work of the intergovernmental commission of the two countries," the President of Kyrgyzstan said at the time.
