Presidents of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov, signed a declaration on strengthening friendship and strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, reports the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
Tokayev is on an official visit to Turkmenistan, where he held talks with President Berdimuhamedov.
During the talks, the Kazakh president referred to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan as brotherly states that have built strong and harmonious relations and are developing them within the framework of a strategic partnership. He noted that Kazakhstan is ready to expand exports to Turkmenistan by approximately $120 million.
Tokayev also positively assessed the progressive development of cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as the prospects for cooperation in higher education.
Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the visit of the President of Kazakhstan would further strengthen good neighborly relations and close cooperation between the two countries.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed the implementation of initiatives in the gas sector, increasing mutual trade and freight transportation, and enhancing interregional cooperation.
"In conclusion, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov adopted a Declaration on strengthening friendship and deepening multifaceted strategic partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan," the statement said.
Additionally, official representatives of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan signed around 20 other significant documents across a wide range of areas of cooperation.
