Kazakhstan and IAEA Approved a Roadmap for Cooperation Until 2036

ASTANA - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi, during which the two sides discussed developing cooperation in nuclear safety, nuclear energy, and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, Kazpravda.kz reports.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan highly values ​​its long-standing partnership with the IAEA and the Agency's contribution to strengthening global nuclear security. He noted that Grossi's first visit to Kazakhstan in 2023 gave additional impetus to bilateral cooperation.

Particular attention during the talks was paid to the signing of a Roadmap for Deepening Kazakhstan's Cooperation with the IAEA until 2036, as well as a number of documents in the field of nuclear medicine and scientific research.

Grossi, in turn, praised Kazakhstan's commitment to nuclear non-proliferation principles and congratulated the country on the launch of its nuclear energy development program following the decision to build a nuclear power plant adopted in a referendum.

The President of Kazakhstan confirmed the country's readiness to further promote international nuclear security and stated the country's readiness, subject to the relevant international agreements, to assist in resolving the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program.

The IAEA chief noted that Kazakhstan possesses the necessary international authority, infrastructure, and scientific and technical potential to participate in the implementation of such initiatives. Furthermore, Tokayev wished Grossi success in his bid for the post of UN Secretary-General.
