On August 25, a telephone conversation took place between the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Berdimuhamedov congratulated Tokayev on the successful conduct of the Kurultai elections, emphasizing that their results reflect the will of the people and support the ongoing reform agenda. Tokayev expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for its support and the participation of observers, Orient.tm reported.
The parties noted the high level of political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation. Particular attention was paid to upcoming events in Avaza from October 7–9, including a consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, and the Caspian Environmental Summit. To
Tokayev reiterated his invitation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to participate in the November meeting of the Aqaba Process on Artificial Intelligence Security in Astana. The importance of Turkmenistan's accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Central Asia was also noted.
The conversation demonstrates that Ashgabat and Astana view bilateral relations not only through the prism of economic cooperation but also as an important element of emerging regional diplomacy.
The coincidence of several major events at Avaza is particularly telling: they allow Turkmenistan to simultaneously strengthen ties with Central Asia, the CIS, and the Caspian states.
Turkmenistan's accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Central Asia also demonstrates the gradual expansion of its participation in regional formats. At the same time, Ashgabat maintains its traditional foreign policy approach, combining regional cooperation with the principle of neutrality.
In this context, close dialogue with Kazakhstan takes on particular significance: both countries share energy, transport, and Caspian interests, and political dialogue creates the foundation for advancing broader regional initiatives.
