Following talks between President Sadyr Japarov and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and China signed 32 bilateral documents, including the Treaty of Eternal Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. The package of agreements covers transport, trade, investment, agriculture, digital technology, and other areas of cooperation.
The two heads of state also adopted a joint declaration on the high-quality development of a comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. Bishkek notes that the treaty creates a long-term legal basis for further strengthening political trust and practical cooperation.
Xi Jinping stated that relations between China and Kyrgyzstan are experiencing a "golden period" of development. Sadyr Japarov, in turn, emphasized that China is one of Kyrgyzstan's top foreign policy priorities and its most important trade and investment partner.
Of particular importance to the two countries is the development of transport connectivity, particularly the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which is considered one of the region's key infrastructure projects.
Xi Jinping's state visit began on August 30 and comes amidst intensified bilateral ties. However, his visit to Bishkek is not solely related to Kyrgyz-Chinese relations: the Chinese leader is also participating in the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is already hosting many heads of state and government of the Organization's member countries.
