DUSHANBE - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced the establishment of the International Presidential Prize of the Republic of Tajikistan for Water Resources. The announcement was made at the international conference "Water for Sustainable Development" taking place in Dushanbe, Avesta.tj reports.
According to President Rahmon, the new award aims to promote water diplomacy, strengthen international cooperation, and consolidate the global community's efforts to ensure a sustainable and secure future.
The prize will be awarded for outstanding contributions to the development of international partnerships, scientific research, the promotion of sustainable water policies, and the development of practical solutions in water resources management.
The establishment of the award reflects the growing urgency of the global water agenda. According to international organizations, climate change, population growth, ecosystem degradation, and increasing water consumption are exacerbating water resource scarcity in many regions of the world. These challenges are particularly acute in Central Asia, where the rational use of transboundary rivers and water security are becoming important factors for sustainable development and regional cooperation.
For many years, Tajikistan has been a key initiator of global water initiatives at the UN, advancing international dialogue on water security, sustainable water resource management, and adaptation to climate change.
