The Government of Tajikistan has approved additional support measures for importers of environmentally friendly transport, Sputnik Tajikistan reports.

From mid-May, electric cars, electric buses and trolleybuses up to one year old will be exempt from VAT and excise duties. The government notes that these measures will help make electric cars more accessible to the population and accelerate the transition to environmentally friendly transport.

According to the state program of Tajikistan, by 2030, 30% of all transport in the country should switch to electric traction. The country's authorities are also considering the possibility of completely switching the capital's passenger transport to electric cars.

The Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan Sherali Kabir said that the Government is actively negotiating with Chinese companies on the localization of the production of electric cars. However, as the Minister noted, unlike Uzbekistan, where only hybrids are currently produced, Tajikistan intends to master the full cycle of electric car production.

"We are in the process of expanding three projects with China. Of course, technology transfer from China is not expected. So that you understand, I will give you an example of Uzbekistan. A project with a Chinese company is currently being implemented in this country. However, they are cooperating on the production of hybrid cars, and the technology for producing electric cars has not yet been transferred,” Kabir noted.

To stimulate infrastructure development, entrepreneurs involved in the construction of charging stations will be given a 10-year tax holiday. These measures should make Tajikistan one of the regional leaders in the use of environmentally friendly transport.
