President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin published articles on Russia-Kazakhstan relations and Eurasian integration ahead of the Russian president's state visit to Astana.
Putin's article appeared in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper, while Tokayev's was published in Izvestia.
Putin highlighted the historic role of Russia and Kazakhstan in establishing the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"Russia is one of Kazakhstan's largest economic partners. Our states are active advocates of Eurasian economic integration and were among the founders of the Eurasian Economic Union," said Putin.
He noted that trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan set a new record last year, reaching $28 billion (2.9 trillion rubles). In the first nine months of this year, it has already exceeded $20 billion (2.1 trillion rubles).
Tokayev emphasized the important role of the EAEU in integration within the Eurasian space.
"Astana and Moscow are working fruitfully within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, which has become an important mechanism for integration in the Eurasian space and has gained international recognition," Tokayev stated.
The President of Kazakhstan reminded readers that 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the treaty establishing the EAEU. He underscored that over the past decade, the union has proven effective in integrating the economic policies of its member states and enhancing mutual trade.
As reported by Rhythm of Eurasia, the Russian president's state visit to Kazakhstan begins on November 27 and will last two days. During the visit, the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan will hold talks to discuss the development of strategic relations between their countries.
