The issues of joint development of the hydrocarbon field "Dostluk" were discussed during the negotiations between the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Batyr Amanov, and the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, as well as the President of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev, Trend news agency reports.
"As part of the working visit to Turkmenistan, President of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev and I met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Amanov and his colleagues to discuss key issues of bilateral energy cooperation, including the current state of cooperation in the field of energy exchange and joint development of hydrocarbon resources at the 'Dostlug' field, as well as the potential participation of SOCAR in the development of Turkmenistan's fields," said Minister Jabbarov in a post on his X social media account.
The "Dostluk" field is located on the border of the Turkmen and Azerbaijani sectors of the Caspian Sea. A memorandum of understanding on joint exploration and development was signed in January 2021.
Currently, exploration of the field and confirmation of its reserves using modern seismic survey methods are planned, requiring the resolution of several technical and financial issues.
Gas fields in the Caspian sea have long been a subject of dispute between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
