The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (parliament) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, stated at the "SCO+" meeting in Astana that Turkmenistan fully shares the fundamental principles underlying the activities of the SCO: peace, mutual respect, equality, and cooperation, according to the Turkmen state agency TDH.

According to Berdimuhamedow, Ashgabat has been promoting the initiative of dialogue as a guarantee of peace on the international stage for several years, which is fully aligned with the theme of the current Summit. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow noted that this is a good prerequisite for the commencement of substantive joint work within the UN and other authoritative multilateral structures.

"As is known, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2025 has been declared by the United Nations as the 'International Year of Peace and Trust.' This is recorded in the corresponding resolution of the General Assembly, providing political and legal grounds for the full involvement of our states in the process of consultations and negotiations at the UN to develop common approaches and a consolidated position on the peaceful and peacekeeping agenda," said the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan in Astana.

In the same context, the National Leader of the Turkmen people proposed discussing with the SCO the possibilities of supporting Turkmenistan's initiative to form a Global Security Strategy, put forward by President Serdar Berdimuhamedow last September at the plenary session of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
