The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, "Peaceful Settlement of Border Disputes," initiated by Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The document was submitted by Kyrgyzstan jointly with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. More than 40 states co-sponsored it.
The resolution calls on countries to resolve border issues peacefully, through dialogue and negotiations. The document notes the experience of Central Asian countries that have made progress in resolving complex territorial issues.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the adoption of the resolution recognizes the efforts of countries in the region to strengthen good-neighborly relations and seek compromises on contentious issues.
