Contracts and agreements worth $1 bln – results of visits of Kyrgyz President in 2024

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov undertook 25 significant and impactful visits in 2024, as stated by Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeenbek Kulubaev during a year-end press conference, reports Economist.kg.

Among the key foreign policy events at the presidential level, the minister highlighted the following:

State Visits

  • Azerbaijan (April 24–25): A joint declaration on deepening strategic partnership and a five-year cooperation program between the two governments were signed. The authorized capital of the Azerbaijan-Kyrgyzstan Development Fund was increased to $100 million.
  • Uzbekistan (July 18–19): During the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Business Forum, agreements totaling $206 million were signed, including $142.6 million for coal exports, glass production, geological exploration, and coal field development, and $64 million for trade contracts in agricultural products, mineral fertilizers, and construction materials.

Official Visits

  • Kazakhstan (April 18–19): An agreement to deepen and expand allied relations was signed, along with a session of the High Interstate Council and the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Business Forum, resulting in agreements worth over $300 million.
  • Italy (October 3–4): A joint statement by the two leaders was issued, a business forum involving Kyrgyz and Italian entrepreneurs was held, and the "Kyrgyzstan" Park was inaugurated in Rome.
  • South Korea (December 2–4): A joint statement on establishing a comprehensive partnership was signed, along with bilateral agreements in various sectors totaling over $500 million.
  • Austria and Germany (November 24–26): A series of bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing Kyrgyz-Austrian and Kyrgyz-German cooperation were signed.

Working Visits

  • Russia: The president conducted five working visits, including participation in multilateral events.
  • Belgium (June 24–26): An agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation with the European Union was signed.
  • New York (September 21–24): Participation in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. During the summit, Japarov urged active participation in replenishing the funds of the International Development Association of the World Bank and other international financial institutions.
  • Azerbaijan (November 11–13): Participation in the COP-29 Climate Conference Leaders’ Summit. At the summit, the president outlined Kyrgyzstan's vision and proposals for combating global warming and presented mountain-focused initiatives.
