The authorities of Kazakhstan blocked access to the website of the Bureau of Industry and Security under the US Department of Commerce from the territory of the republic for phishing activity. This is stated in the information of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, TASS reports.
"For 21 phishing resources, including the site bis.doc.gov, a corresponding order was prepared and sent for execution to restrict access to them," said Nurbek Amish, a spokesman for the ministry.
He stressed that "the allegations spreading in the media and social media that the reason for restricting access was the publication of a website about Kazakhstan's alleged assistance to Russia in circumventing sanctions do not correspond to reality." Amish did not rule out that after additional verification, access to the site could be restored.
At the same time, when trying to open the bureau's website, a blocking message appears indicating that access to the resource is closed for "disseminating knowingly false information," the agency said.
Earlier, a message appeared on the bureau's website that an American delegation was working in Kazakhstan in April with the participation of a representative of the US Department of Commerce. Its participants discussed measures to ensure sanctions against Russia. Later, a US Treasury Department report released that members of the delegation urged Astana to "be vigilant" and discussed Washington's "dual-use flows of greatest concern."
