Majority of Kazakh citizens support сonstruction of a Nuclear PP in Referendum

The majority of Kazakh citizens voted in favor of building a nuclear power plant in a referendum, according to the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.

On October 6, a referendum was held in Kazakhstan regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country. To obtain preliminary results, various research organizations conducted exit-poll surveys among voters, Ritmeurasia reports.

According to data from the "Institute for Comprehensive Social Research – Astana" foundation, 69.8% of referendum participants voted in favor of building the nuclear power plant, while 30.2% opposed the project. Voter turnout was recorded at 67.3%.

The Public Policy Institute of the "AMANAT" party found that 72.3% of citizens supported the nuclear power plant's construction, while 27.7% did not.

Based on research from the Institute of Eurasian Integration, 71.8% of referendum participants voted for the construction of the plant, while 28.2% voted against it.

It is worth noting that Kazakhstan plans to build the nuclear power plant on the shore of Lake Balkhash in the village of Ulken, Almaty region.
