Tajikistan ranked 47th in the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI), with a score of 1.799, according to the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). Among Central Asian countries, Tajikistan is behind only Uzbekistan, which ranked 37th (1.726), and Kazakhstan, which ranked 44th (1.771).
Kyrgyzstan ranked 61st with a score of 1.853, and Turkmenistan ranked 66th with a score of 1.903. Thus, all five countries in the region are in the top half of the ranking and are classified by the IEP as highly peaceful.
For Tajikistan, this indicator reflects a long-term improvement: in 2016, the index was 1.971, but over the past ten years, it has fallen to 1.799.
Tajikistan's position in the top fifty indicates a significant improvement in its long-term security and stability indicators. It is particularly significant that all Central Asian countries are in the top half of the ranking.
This indicates the emergence of a relatively stable space in the region, despite persistent political, economic, and geopolitical risks. It is also significant that Eastern Europe and Central Asia were the only GPI region where the average level of peacefulness improved.
