Special representatives of Central Asian countries and the EU discussed security issues in Afghanistan

The Turkmen delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Gurbanov participated in the fifth meeting of the special representatives of the Central Asian states and the EU on Afghanistan held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, Orient reports.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, issues related to socio-economic and humanitarian aspects were discussed, along with the work conducted in ensuring security in Afghanistan.

The meeting took place on the eve of a planned event in Qatar, where detailed discussions on the further socio-economic development of the neighboring republic are also expected.

"On the sidelines of this session, the Turkmen delegation held a meeting with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala, and the Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas Niclasson," the Turkmen Foreign Ministry's press service reported.
