Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have extended the contract for the repair of the Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway by six months. The parties hope that the allotted time will be sufficient for the full launch of the project, reports Podrobno.uz.
According to the Afghan news agency TOLOnews, the contract concluded between Tashkent and Kabul will help connect Central and South Asia, increasing commercial potential.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Public Works of Afghanistan stated that a series of negotiations have begun on training Afghan railway workers in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, experts from the republic are planned to be invited to conduct a technical inspection of the Trans-Afghan route.
The reconstruction began earlier this year, with project organizers hoping to complete all work within six months. The project's cost was estimated at $7 billion.
Experts believe that the reconstruction and expansion of the railway will be effective for the economic growth of both countries.
It should be noted that the Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif road was used by the Uzbek side to deliver humanitarian aid to the residents of Afghanistan.
